Intertrigo is an inflammatory condition of skin folds, induced or aggravated by heat, friction and lack of air circulation. Opposing skin surfaces rub against each other causing erosions that become inflammed.
It's a painful condition, often exacerbated by infection. Candida intertrigo is the most common infection, but bacterial, fungal or viral infections can also occur.
Intertrigo symptoms include:
- Erythema (redness)
- Maceration
- Odor
- Itching/burning
- Pain
- Erosions
