August 23, 2012 — Coloplast North America, a provider of products and services for people with intimate medical needs, has launched WheelMate™ and CathNow – two free smartphone apps aimed at improving the quality of life for wheelchair and catheter users.
“It is our mission to create solutions that make our patient’s lives easier, meeting both their clinical and personal needs,” said Melissa Paris, Marketing Director, Continence Care, Coloplast North America. “We do this by working with and listening to the people who use our products every day. These free apps deliver on our commitment to providing the highest level of care throughout a patient’s lifetime by removing challenges that otherwise get in the way of a vibrant daily life.”
WheelMate is both a free smartphone app and a web application that gives wheelchair users an instant overview of their nearest wheelchair-friendly toilets and parking spaces. For the more than 2.7 million wheelchair users in the U.S., making even simple day trips to unknown places is a major planning issue because of the challenge of finding accessible toilets. Powered by users themselves, WheelMate solves the issue by providing user-verified locations, with ratings and comments. Wheelchair users can plan trips in advance by creating a printable list of locations on their route; rate and comment on locations listed by others; and join the effort to build the largest network of accessible toilets and parking spaces in the app or on the site.
CathNow is a free smartphone app that reminds catheter users to cath on their doctor-prescribed schedule, the best thing they can do to maintain bladder health and prevent infections or other complications. The app allows users to set up to ten daily cath reminder alarms; customize reminder texts; and set reminders to order supplies and store supplier contact information – making cathing one less thing to remember. CathNow is ideal for people with neurogenic bladder, retention or anyone who uses an intermittent catheter regularly.
The apps are available on both iOS and Android platforms and can be downloaded at:
